Connecting 5G new radios

Mobile networks urgently need higher speeds and better coverage. However, without opportunities for increased revenues, communication service providers (CSPs) are reluctant to invest. They need to be able to tap into new revenue streams, and opportunities will emerge as CSPs begin to extend their customer base from connected people towards the untapped potential of connected enterprises with billions of sensors and smart devices. There are also major opportunities for closing fiber gaps with fiber-like bandwidth over radio access networks. With virtual private mobile networks and mid-band/high-band radio, 5G offers a rich set of possibilities for revenue growth.

Cell site gateways enable demarcation between radio base stations and the connectivity network. Historically, this has included multi-technology demarcation of Ethernet and IP bandwidth services, as well as resilience and tight performance monitoring. These capabilities will be required in the future, but 5G needs even more. In order to flexibly implement different split options, and for latency reasons, cell site gateways must come with integrated servers for hosting VNFs. Network slicing is also key. Our FSP 150-XG118Pro has been developed to address these requirements. With a 10Gbit/s interface, it offers sufficient capacity as well as a rich set of hardware-based multi-layer demarcation functions.

Check out our solution brief and discover how the ADVA FSP 150-XG118Pro is the ultimate tool for CSPs transitioning to low-latency services. With its pluggable server, this fully integrated cell site gateway device delivers essential demarcation capabilities and enables software to be hosted at the network edge. It also features an environmentally hardened design, removing the need for air-conditioning at the cell site. Read how this edge compute device leverages our field-proven, award-winning Ensemble software suite for the hosting of VNFs at the network edge or cell site. And find out how its zero-touch provisioning and inbuilt timing technology provide a vital competitive edge.
