By leveraging the power of CMOS silicon, coherent technology has been able to accelerate reductions in cost, size, and power of optical interconnections for transport applications. New coherent products will offer data rates of 400Gbit/s to 600Gbit/s using a single wavelength based on 16nm and 7nm process benchmarks. Advances in optical components are contributing as well, with higher bandwidth and lower-cost packaging technologies.
In this discussion, Jörg-Peter Elbers and the panel will discuss trends in coherent architectures and technologies and how they could be implemented in the future. They will also cover topics such as whether data rates can continue to increase, the partitioning of functions in coherent optical interconnects and the next steps in packaging and integration.
