As demands on communication service provider (CSP) networks grow, it’s imperative that they find ways to operate quicker, cheaper and more efficiently. Supplying, installing and maintaining customer premises equipment (CPE) is an area where CSPs spend huge amounts for both enterprise and residential customers. Leveraging network functions virtualization (NFV) to provide virtual CPE solutions would have a huge impact on cost.
However, this approach comes with some significant challenges and serious concerns have been raised about the security, scalability, and manageability of distributed OpenStack infrastructure. In this presentation, Adam Smith will explain how embedding a complete cloud instance within the CPE can help allay many of these issues, while also increasing flexibility and improving performance.
