Klaus Grobe joined Adtran in January 2023 as the leader of the company’s global sustainability program, where he is focused on improving the energy efficiency of telecommunication networks. Klaus is also helping develop circular economic business models (CEBMs) to reduce waste and improve sustainability. A highly experienced telecommunications expert, Klaus previously worked for ADVA in lightwave guides and WDM. He has also spent several years in the crossover area of telecommunications and oceanology.


Klaus is one of the principal authors of Wavelength Division Multiplexing – A Practical Engineering Guide and has authored and co-authored more than 100 technical publications on WDM and PON technologies. His research interests include next-generation broadband access networks and high-speed WDM transport. Klaus works in ITG Study Group 5.3.3 on Photonic Networks, in FSAN and ITU SG15-Q.2 on NG-PON2 and with the QuEST Forum Sustainability Initiative. He holds a doctorate in telecommunications (nonlinear fiber optics) from Leibniz University of Hanover and a bachelor’s degree in telecommunications (fiber optics) from the same institution.
